When will the selections be made? Once all artwork is received within a timely manner the selected Artists will be notified.
Any dates you can provide for the mural? We are looking to complete the mural in the spring.
Do the boards need to be primed? The boards are supplied to the artist ready to paint and a company will adhere the artwork boards to the wall.
Is there a preferred orientation: vertical or horizontal? The pieces are horizontal with one vertical
Is there a recommended paint for the project? Once the artists are selected. More information will be provided to the artist regarding recommended paints and varnishes.
Is each artist responsible for one panel and the stipend for one panel is $700? Each artist is responsible for one panel and the total cost given to each artist is $700. Artists will also be responsible for buying their own paints and materials. Artists will be paid at the completion of the painting.
Is the varnish and anti- graffiti proofing the artist’s responsibility? We will provide the anti- graffiti. Artists are responsible to varnish their art.
If we have a studio, and are selected, can we paint it in our own studios? Yes, you can paint at your own location. If selected all artists will have a month or more to paint the mural at their own location. Artists who use the location provided will have a few weekends to paint the paintings. Currently we are securing a location with the City and that painting will be in early Spring at that location.
Can you clarify more about topic of the artwork? The theme for these painted panels are trains. The trains can be depicted in various styles and can depict the long history and relationship of trains in Malden.
